How have you wired them up? Connected the grounds like you're supposed to?
I would recommend avoiding using strandtest, especially if you don't have a capable power supply.
It's either a wiring issue and/or an insufficient power supply issue. Seeing as how you haven't described either, that's the best answer you'll get for now.
