This introduces an issue that I don't think the OP has grasped - what is the longest acceptable interval between messages. I have a feeling he thinks that transmission is continuous. And the interval cannot be so short that the Arduino is totally occupied with sending messages. For one thing, there must be time for the master to receive messages from both slaves and interpret the data before the next message arrives. And the interval must also be long enough to accommodate a reasonable number of retries in case the message does not get through on the first attempt.
IMHO the OP first needs to figure out the acceptable interval between messages (the longer the better) before considering any other issues. That is why I said in Reply #28 that at this stage he should focus on "management" rather than programming.
