Advice on re-using existing components from thermostat

Hi,

I'm very new to Arduino and to electronics in general, so perhaps there is no set answer for my question. I have over 10 years of experience in programming, but that won't help me much :slight_smile:

I have this thermostat:

I'd like to know if I can reuse some parts to make my own smart thermostat. Interesting parts:

  • the screen
  • the temperature sensor
  • the dial / knob
  • buttons

How would I go about finding this out? I don't have a datasheet or anything like that...

I'd do the opposite :grin:

If I were you, I'd take it apart to see how it works but completely change the user interface (touch screen, colors, API, etc.), so no use for the old knobs.
