ADXL345 accelerometer connection problem

I recently bought an accelerometer (ADXL345) off ebay.
When it arrived I connected it to my arduino uno, but it didn't work. The 'on' indicator led turns on, but when I try to read values from the accelerometer the arduino cannot connect.
It communicates via spi. (I have no experiance off working with spi)
I downloaded the test sketch off the internet (which I have included below). I am presuming that it is correct.

Any help greatly appreciated!
