AI in the forum

I actually feel responsible for the AI discussion on the forums, so I thought I'd just do a poll and see what other people think of it. Maybe we can find a common solution.

I hope it doesn't matter if I just do this now, even though I'm not an admin.

I've already received the message that surveys don't count that much, but we have to see what can be done!

If there is a clear answer, we can also contact the Arduino admins - but they will follow it anyway!

AI in the forum
  • I think AI can help and should be allowed.
  • I think AI should be censored.
  • I think AI is allowed to be used, but only if the AI is credited as the source and you also agree to being banned for overly superficial answers. There should be a report button that you can press. If there are several messages, the user should receive a warning / be blocked for a certain period of time.
  • I think AI can help and should be allowed. Maybe this will even be included in the forum?
  • I don't want to give my opinion on this.

You are not, there are others besides you who have prompted the discussion. Thanks for the poll.

That's So true

You might want to post a link to this in the other topic on AI.

I already did, but because of the many replies it's already slid to the top:

Hmmm 12 voters and 15 votes !

Summat dunt add up ?

Question 3 is like an omnibus - additions to the forum software like adding buttons and additional automatic forum behaviours don't happen easily.

You can choose up to 4 options

Yea not exactly the best laid out poll.
But I guess it was done in a hurry so it is what it is.

Clarification, how do you define an "overly superficial answer"?

Suppose to me it would a Q. that was ambiguous, leading, vague, or had too many words that could be open to different interpretations.

Polls are supposed to use short factual choices and where possible only single answers should count.
If more than one answer is correct the there would be an option. Eg "All the above", A and B, etc.

I'm glad you all found the poll. Yes, it is true that this one was created quickly. But I think it's understandable.

If you believe in something, you can do it. If we want to improve the forum, we can do it.

However, I am welcome to create a new poll and specify the questions and limit it to just one answer. Feel free to contact me with any suggestions!

No! One-time-around is 'nuff. Regardless of how the vote goes today, AI Q/A will need to be revisited (likely several times) as the maturity of collective intelligence matures.

Here in the U.S. I remember the hell raised over mandatory seatbelts in automobiles. Just recently, COVID vaccinations. People simply do not like change and like even less being told what-to-do.

You need an admin account to do this. Admins need really compelling reasons to change things.

Have you been in the backroom of Arduino or the moderator section ?

Just be wary and don't expect too much as your aspirations to help may get dashed by broken rungs on the ladder.

Know for a fact that I am on a knife edge and that bans, actions might occur from the broken rungs for speaking out in an honest manner. Already taken a hit in that regard.

Used to have your view that things could be changed.
And for a while it was going fantastic.
There was actual interest in ideas and suggestions.
Things got done to the benefit of the the forum and the web IDE along with a few other things.

Then there was an EXODUS of staff and a "new kid on the block" and all that went away.
Speaking with some experience here and not to belittle or poo poo the attempts to keep moving forward that a lot of staff still still try to do.
Sure promises were made but no real or actual progress on most of them just simply "lip service"

Imagine a brick wall and you keep banging your head against it.
Well that is often how it feels back there.

And NO it is not just me on a "rant" !
So many good people do work for Arduino for the well being of the whole platform.

However in FORUM matters there needs to be a fundamental change.
We need a "Community Manager" and not just anyone can fill that role.
Certainly not those who consistently hold back things and possibly abuse thier powers to do so.

You need a person who can be sympathetic to the forum but tell you straight when something will be too hard to implement and tell you the proper reasons why.
Unfortunately we have neither in the two tasked to that end.

A "poll" may give a tiny indication of peoples feelings on a matter.
What do you do with that poll ?
Sure it may go part way up the ladder but how far ?
Again given experience of this it wont get far.

Would love to see more involvement of the community as a whole.
That was always a dream of mine for Arduino even though I worked in an unpaid capacity and had direct access to some of the great people who cared.

Again this is not a "rant" or anything even close.
This view is and has been shared by others and at least in my case is based on facts and personal experience.

Rather than ask for AI to be dealt with you as a community are more in need of a compassionate forum leader "Community Manager"

Alas that wont be me for various reasons.

Thanks, but I know that. Maybe someday I'll become one...

If you want a community manager, you'll need to talk to the Arduino team. I can't help here.

It would not matter.

CM has come up before and died a death.
Nothing to suppose that will change.
And certainly no-way would I ever get the position

The questions in this poll show the favour of the composer of the poll.
Questions/statements should be neutral.
The one question / statement the composer does not seem to like or agree upon, is the one that has the negative ring to it.
That's a way to steer the outcome of a poll.
