Interested, yes. Not sure I've much to add.
I'm working on RPI (CV2) to arduino Due combination for a wheeled robot (using wheelchair motors + encoders) - Just getting the bits going atm.

Yes, good ideas.

I have completed a Wheel Bot with an Arduino and Sonar Board.
It generally avoids walls and darts around the room.
