Hello,
I wanted to know if it was possible to use the Arduino+GSM+Relay boards for controlling the AC supply(on/off) to an air conditioner via SMS. Controlling the on/off state of a bulb is simple since the power consumption is not very high. The relay board I used for the bulb could handle current upto 8A. But can the same arrangement be applied to an air conditioner as well? I guess it depends on the type of relay being used? Correct me if I am wrong.

With an appropriate relay, yes.
I guess it depends on the type of relay being used?
Yes, it does.
Can you please specify the exact relay I would have to employ?
Depends on how much power the air con unit draws.

The input AC power is 220V. The air conditioner requires 1950watt generally.
And peak current draw? Is it an inductive load? Because that's what you need to switch, unless you want to weld the relay contacts together.
A powertail switch would be the safest way and would avoid you needing to deal directly with any dangerous high voltage circuits.
If the AC unit has an Infrared remote control, you could send and IR signal based on the SMS message contents ....
....would give you full control of the unit.
