Alarm Clock LED display

Silly question, want to make a display for a set of scales project. An want a large display, was thinking of taking an old clock (alarm) with a lcd display, taking everything out, bar the display. Then connecting the display to arduino.

Was looking else where and saying that the arduino will make the led's on and off very fast, thus making it seem that the dots are all one.

Is there any easy way to do this ? (for the simple), and has anybody done something simlar ?

Yes you will have to control the time of each output to the LEDs. This response is to help you get started in solving your problem, not solve it for you. Good Luck & Have Fun! Gil

You refer to a LCD display - but then to LEDs. Which is it? :astonished:

LCDs require LCD driver chips to operate. The clock of course, is based on just such a special-purpose chip but if you expect to use the LCD without this, you will need to find an LCD driver chip that suits.

In fact, this will be a difficult match in particular because you will need to know the original specifications of the LCD.

LED displays from clocks are also a trifle tricky as they do not suit the driver chips such as the MAX72189 that are commonly used with Arduinox.
