alternative serial pins??

I have a ATMEGA328, and need it to communicate with another atmega328. But I already have the pins 2 and 3 are occupied. Is there any way I can use other pins to communicate serially without using softserial ?

Doing what?

Are you referring to pins 2 and 3 on the Arduino or on the ATMega328 chip?

In neither case are pins 2 and 3 the serial port pins.

No. There is ONE hardware serial port HARDWIRED to the serial port pins.

You could use another chip, like the SC16IS750, and talk to it over SPI or I2C.

Or you could just talk directly the other AVR using SPI/I2C.
