Alternative to Nextion screens?

Hey all

Project just came to a crashing halt... ribbon cable on my 2.4" Nextion screen + touch has snapped and it's not repairable.

I like these screens, as they take a lot of load off the processor. Take a bit of getting used to, but seem to work OK.

BUT... Still as biblically expensive as they were when they came out.

Trouble is, I refuse to pay £40+ to get one off Ebay. It's bad enough paying £24+ on AliExpress.

Anyone got any alternatives to the Nextion series of screens? By this I mean a screen that has the same abilities as the Nextion with some kind of graphics programming environment.

The ESP32 based screens that are splattered all over the place are not suitable. These don't have the same abilities, and a serious lack of spare pins.
I could use those as a slave screen, but all the graphics would need programming and that would be a huge undertaking. My Nextion had 38 pages of graphics.

Looks like a wait until 2024 for my new Nextion to arrive from China!

Just found these...

Anyone tried them?

The closest analogue of Nextion displays are displays with the DGUS interface by DWIN company.

But you must understand that nothing comes for free - for a lower price you will have to pay with a less developed interface and more errors.

In my opinion, £20 per display is a fair price

I will gladly pay for a decent screen. I can get a replacement Nextion in the UK for £37.
But... the Nextion screens have a reputation for being a bit low quality.

I like the look of the 4D screens, and just tried their free software. Hmm... not exactly intuitive.
The Nextion GUI is easier.

Other issue is the screen is bigger than the Nextion.... doesn't quite fit my needs which sucks.

All these screens are resistive touch. Fine, as it is literally only one press at a time.
Can you add protective glass to a resistive touch screen? I really would like to make them (or find) some more robust solutions.

None on those DGUS screens are small enough. I need 2.4" with touch and not just a bare screen.

Looks like Nextion then...

Sadly, Nextion is using IPS displays only in their "intelligent series" with higher prices and bigger display sizes.. I`m using 2.4" in one of my projects and still works good after 3 years.

Are you sure, how is ribbon cable not repairable? Any photos maybe something could be done,,?

No... the backlight ribbon has snapped. Looked at it under the microscope and the whole ribbon had split across the bend breaking all the traces. No fixing it. I have tried.

I was going to replace it with an enhanced version, but that doesn't actually get you much more than memory.
I wanted to play video, but that is only on the intelligent versions.

OK. I am going back to a Nextion screen, purely because I have completed a considerable amount of work on those screens.

Any ideas welcome on how to make these screen more durable in a work environment?
They are resistive touch screens (which work fin for my uses).

Is it possible to add anything over a resistive screen? ... I am guessing not (as in Gorilla glass or something).
