I have disassembled an ambicom GPS module, its a simple USB 2.0 module for computer use. I believe it is similar to a Microsoft Streets and Trips module, which is a Pharos 360 or Pharos 500. My intention is to connect it and collect GPS data, coupled with my Arduino Uno v3 and an LCD Display!
My general question is, how much current do these GPS devices typically use (Pharos, Ambicom, etc)? I understand that each pin on an Uno should be limited to 20 mA. If I am powering my board with USB or a 9V battery, can I (safely) draw more current than 20mA by using the 5V pin on my arduino, and will it be enough to power the GPS without damaging my Arduino?
