So I have a setup where I have the arduino making a tone, that then goes to an amplifier circuit from my Snap Circuits set, and it works fine. The problem is that when no tone is being sent to the input, I get a hissy, whiny sound when the input is connected.
So whenever I have a tone signal, it works fine, but when no signal is sent, I get a really annoying sound.
Any help or note of what's happening?

So ...... if you deliberately ground the input ...... so that the input is basically 0V AC, then you get some undesired hissy/whining noise?
Does this also mean that ...... when your arduino is generating a relatively high level tone, then no whining noise. But.... if you then purposely set the arduino to generate a relatively low level (relatively low AC voltage tone ....via some kind of D/A module), then you can hear significantly whining noise?

No, I don't have a DC input. I'm using a PWM digital output from the arduino, sending it through a different branded amplifier, and outputting it to a speaker.
The problem occurs when there is no voltage going into the AMPS input. As I hear a sound still coming through, but it's not a tone.
I see .... if this particular amplifier is making unusual unexpected noise when nothing is connected to this amps input, then it's possible that it has a circuit problem (component gone out of specs maybe). Has this always occurred? Or it's a new amp? If it is making whining noises, then that could be system instability ...... self-oscillations, which is not what an amp designer wants.
Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
Please read the first post in any forum entitled how to use this forum.
http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php/topic,148850.0.html then look down to item #7 about how to post your code.
It will be formatted in a scrolling window that makes it easier to read.
Can you please post a copy of your circuit, in CAD or a picture of a hand drawn circuit in jpg, png?
Thanks.. Tom..
