Analog Joystick Ky-023 XY: One way only ?

Hi everyone
I'v been playing with the analog joystick KY-023 from keyes and I tried something like the link below

Here is my problem: from the readings of the 2 analog pins I got

  • 0 in neutral position - OK
  • 1024 in the higher position - OK
  • 0 in the lower position - NOT OK

It's like it reads nothing in the "negative" positions.
any ideas?

It's probably not wired correctly. Center position should read about 512, one extreme near 0, and the other extreme near 1023. Check the joystick, unpowered, carefully with an ohmmeter to find the correct wires.
