ANALOG shifting in with a CD4021BE

Hi,

I'm fairly new to working with a Ardunio, so my question may seem redundant but I'm kinda stuck at a certain Problem. I bought a CD4021BE to get more analog Inputs for my Arduino Uno, because a motor shield on top of it uses most I/O pins. The important part is, that I need them to be analog Inputs. I followed the guide at https://www.arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/ShiftIn, which directs my problem, but in this tutorial only digital signals are shifted in. I tried some rewriting of the code, for example simply change the digitalRead(...) to a analogRead(...) but it won't work. Is it even possible to shift in analog signals with a CD4021BE? If so, how?

Thanks a lot for your help! I appreciate it!

No.

Nope. That’s a digital shift register.

If you need more analog inputs, you can either use an analog multiplexer chip (in this, you select which input to the chip to connect to the output), or an external ADC.
