I have been researching for a while without success. Is it possible for the arduino to act as a hands free device using a Bluetooth module paired to an android phone?

The main purpose is to answer calls using other peripherals connected to the arduino. Keep in mind this is not the main purpose of the entire project.

You need to use a Bluetooth module capable of audio, many cheap ones are not, something like one of these Audio module

Even so the quality will not be up to much, due to the sample rate. You could also use an external A/D as well.
