another AREF question

In another post I made a couple weeks ago, I was told not to connect AREF when the whole circuit uses the same 5v power. I am looking at this project for my camera: DIY Intervelometer scroll down to part 4, there's a schematic. It shows AREF connected to 5v, for thermistor and photoresistor. Is that going to be a problem and that I can ignore the offending AREF pin?

Actually is there any time that I need to attach voltage to AREF pin at all?

Yes. When you need a voltage reference that is not VCC or 1.1 V or is more accurate.

I believe the m328 can use an external filter / capacitor in which case a 0.1 µF capacitor is also a good choice.

I also recall a small inductor can be included with the capacitor to further improve the reference.
