Hi guys
I'm in a project that I want to use arduino to control a ton of LEDs (100 to be exactly). So I wonder if there's a good LED driver chip to control each of them.
I know 74HC595, but this can only work with on/off without brightness control.
I know TLC5940, but 100 LEDs require about 13 chips and it's not quite available in my local market.
So, any suggestion?
Thanks
Well we cannot know which devices are available at your local market, you could always do a google search (PWM led driver e.g.) to see if you find more devices that meet your requirements and are available at your local market. There should be more than enough devices that you can use...
On the other hand you can also implement your own brightness control, however it depends what you're trying to do with the 100 LEDs. If you're planning to make some sort of display I think it isn't that hard to create your own brightness control software. Past days I implemented a technique called Bit Angle Modulation for my LED cube library. I can successfully dim my cube (15 steps resolution) that consists of 512 LEDs. But again I don't know what you're trying to do with those 100 LEDs, therefore I'm not sure if you would be able to implement your own brightness control as I did.
Two MAX7219, can drive 128 LEDs with 15-level brightness globally available.
I make a break out board so that you can easily connect the LEDs with a wire pair to each of desired.
