Any other way to get PC to recognize other than complete reboot?

I've got two boards, Duemilanove and UNO, which I plug back and forth between WinXP & Win7 laptops. I find that on the Win7 computer especially, the system just won't go unless I do a hard reboot with the board plugged in.

I'm just wondering if there is some simpler way of slapping the system into recognizing the board.

Maybe a powered USB HUB.

Damn, I am glad my Vista SP2 system behaves better than that. Makes me really wonder about "upgrading" to Win7 ...
