any parts we can get from an optical mouse

i know we get encoders from ball mose but i dont know what parts we get from an optival mouse !

For the record I don't know but I am sure someone would have pulled out the chip and used it as a crude camera.

Yes, I have.
I left most of the mouse internals intact and just talked to the controller chip in there.

The idea was to read our electricity meter dial to measure the usage.
Unfortunately the distance from the protecting plastic front to the actual dial was to large for the optical sensor to focus.

The other day I took apart an Apple wireless Mighty Mouse, and found a laser sensor assembly in there — an ADNS-7050 set. Quite a sophisticated system.

Conventional optical mouse chips are only about 18 x 18 pixels, so not really a lot of use as a camera, but potentially quite useful as a surface movement sensor. For example, on the new HTC phones, there's a button on the front that is actually like an upside-down optical mouse sensor, which senses which way your finger is rubbing it (if indeed it is rubbing it).

More than enough if you want to do a camera to LED matrix project. It fact it is too much resolution.
