last xmas we got my boy an rc car, but the areal has broken. The Transmitter is 27mhz, can i buy ant 27mhz transmitter or must it be a certain type.

OK, so you have a radio controlled car and the antenna/aerial is broken, presumably on the hand held control unit/transmitter? (Since English is my second language I just want to clarify, to make sure that we understand each other.)
Can you control the car using the transmitter that has a broken aerial? On many radio controlled toys the transmitter aerial is attached by screwing the threaded bolt at the base of the antenna into a fixed nut in the receiver. If you can unscrew the remains of the antenna it should be a simpole matter to replace it.
But since you are posting your question here I would guess that you want to control your son's car with a radio transmitter module connected to your Arduino, a project I have considered too. I have not seen any 27 MHz transmitter modules in any stores, but maybe someone else can help you with that part.
