Anyone tried interfacing a palm pilot touch screen

I have an old Handspring Visor (palm equivalent) that I hate to just throw away. Anyone ever tried interfacing the touch screen? Seems like it would be an ideal interface to play around with.

If the visor is working, it might be easier to interface the whole thing to the arduino. IIRC, those old palmtops had serial interfaces, and were programmable. I've always wanted to write a protocol that was flexible and powerful enough to become a "standard" for "smart lcd screens."

I took and old Compaq handheld apart, the digitizer is just a standard 4 wire resistive touchpad, it can easily be interfaced, but the LCD looke like it requires much more. It has one of those flexible flat cables with around 20 cunductors in it. So i think Westfw is right in that it is better to use it serially if possible.

Have you seen http://palmorb.sourceforge.net/ and http://lcdsmartie.sourceforge.net/FAQ.htm?
