Has anyone had any problems with the IDE crashing their mac? It seems very random but only when i come to compile, it makes my mac restart..........
Yes.
And 1.06 made it even worse (30/40% of the times I upload a sketch and almost 70% of the time I open up a serial monitor for stuff). It has gotten to the point that it has become barely useful, even harmful for my system (tapping, grinding or beeping noises on crashing can't be good for a HDD can it?).
It are kernnel crashes with all the fun that comes with those. Beautiful grey screen with the pretty text in all kinda languages, loss of data (I learned to use cmd - s again) corrupted TimeMachine backups.
I like playing with Arduino but at the moment I just don't use it anymore. Every time I push the upload button or do something with serial communication I feel like I'm gambling, and I'm not the luckiest of persons in the world.
Got two MacBook's (a 2009 pro model and a 2013 pro Model) Arduino (all version started noticing it since 1.01) crashes both of them for certain!
Do yourself a favor and don't do Arduino Development on a Mac system (my opnion!), buy a Linux/Window old banger for that purpose, because the crash problem doesn't seem to go away it even gets a little worse every Arduino iteration in my experience.
I have read posts almost identical to this all most all claim OS X issues.
@joshbailz is your MAC a DESKTOP or MACBOOK PRO or AIR.
So far the majority of issue are with MACBook Pros.
I have several MAC desktops and have seen ZERO issues.
Has any one with a MACBook had crashes when running Linux or Windows on those MACBooks.
So far in reading it seems most likely the MACBook hardware or hardware related software or drivers.
I have not been able to talk the wife into letting use her MACBook so I can test things.
Has any on tried running a powered USB hub as buffer for MACBook USB port, we had found this necessary on the wife MACBook when running an external BluRay drive.
