arduino 1.0 and avrispmkii

i need to program an atmega328pu chip on a breadboard. i followed every instruction on the website and everything i found on the internet but every time i burn the code to the chip i get an error message
(attached), even if i have selected the correct comm port and board =(

Turn on verbose upload output in Prefernces:

Show verbose output during: [ ] copilation [x] upload.

Then when you upload you will get MUCH more detail, including the signature that was actually read. If the signature is reading as 00 00 00 or FF FF FF you probably have something connected incorrectly.

If you have a '328-PU vs a '328P-PU, that would explain the signature byte mismatch.

Find your copy of avrdude.conf and paste this at the end of it

Restart the IDE - a new board type of Uno328 should be in the list, use that. There may be another step needed, if this doesn't work we'll see if someone else can advise on the process.

Yes, I tried that myself last night & got the same. Am trying to add a bunch of chips, all worked great except the '328 and a '16U4 (smaller memory version of Leonardo 32U4). Am looking into it.
