Arduino 1.0 Upload Using Programmer question

I hope this is the right place to ask this, If not I'm Sorry.

Since the Arduino 1.0 release there is the Upload Using Programmer option, I was wondering if this can be used to program an Atmega328 chip. I want to make a Serial LCD backpack with a surface mount chip and only need to program it once and i don't want to have to have to add a Serial connector.

Yes, this is possible. It was possible with older versions of the IDE as well.

Nice, I thought it could only be used to burn the bootloader in the old versions (except with the Attinys)
