Arduino: 1.8.5 (Windows 10), Board: "Arduino Nano, ATmega328P" - Cannot upload

Hello, this is my first post and my first arduino project. The sketch is a known working sketch that I got from a fellow enthusiast that programmed it to automatically open a convertible car top. It has been used by dozens of other owners so I know the sketch is good.

Here is my situation. I purchased a nano and downloaded the IDE. I compiled the sketch and tried to upload to the Nano board. I get the following:

Arduino: 1.8.5 (Windows 10), Board: "Arduino Nano, ATmega328P"

avrdude done. Thank you.

Problem uploading to board. See http://www.arduino.cc/en/Guide/Troubleshooting#upload for suggestions.

Of note, If I change the board to Mini, it uploads but the board is actually a Nano.

Thanks in advance.

John

Here is what I get when I change the target to Arduino Mini:

avrdude done. Thank you.

Do this:

  • Tools > Board > Boards Manager
  • Wait for the download to finish
  • Click on "Arduino AVR Boards"
  • Click "Update"
  • Wait for the update to finish
  • Click "Close"

After doing that, you will be able to upload to your Nano with Tools > Board > Arduino/Genuino Nano selected.

That solved it! Thank you!

John

I have the same problem but it says that my Arduino AVR Boards are up to date

Have you tried the different processor options under tools → processor?

thanks, it helped!

It worked with nano but when I wanted to upload to uno there was the same problem but no processor options

Processor options are applicable to certain boards only; for the Nano because it exists in three version. The official Uno only exists in one version.

Please post the error message that you get with the Uno.
