Arduino 1.8.8 problem reading flash size when used with ESP8266

hi all
i have been using 1.8.8 for a while with ESP8266 & ESP32 and there seems to be some sort of bug in the system:
setting board to ESP8266 then going to tools menu flash size reads '4MB(32Mb)' which is the defallt size for ESP32
opening out the flash size and selecting say 4M(3M SPIFFS)
tools menu again, flash size reads '4MB(32Mb)' as it did before but opening out the flash size again shows that 4M(3M SPIFFS) is indeed selected.
everything works ok and uploads ok, there just seems to be an error with the basic flash size dropdown

has this issue been reported before and if so has it been corrected

never report a bug in old version of some software

thats very helpful thank you, not everyone updates as soon as a new version is available, i prefer to use it rather than keep up to date
