Arduino 101 won't upload

I have an Arduino 101 that i just got and have yet tot get it to upload, it states flashing is taking longer than expected and I get an Error: Timed out waiting for Arduino 101 on /dev/ttyACM0.

My operating system is Linux Mint 18...but I also tried and get the same issues with another computer using Linux Mint 17.3 using the following versions.

Arduino IDE 1.6.12 Arduino AVR Boards 1.6.14 Intel Curie Boards 1.0.7

I've done a ton of searching and have tried many different things:

I assigned the group dialout to my username as well as the group tty I tried running IDE as root I created a udev rule I did a sudo apt-get --purge remove modemmanager

Any help would be much appreciated.

Usually hitting master reset at the first or second "waiting for device" works pretty well.

Not a linux user but it sounds like you have it set up ok.

I've actually tried that as well...no luck. I'm stumped.

Have you wandered around the 101 section of the forum ?

A little bit before. However since you mentioned it I did find more relevant discussions on the same issue. I don't know what i did but now the sketchbook folder is not found and i accidentially deleted 1.07 of currie. I reinstalled IDE and it still won't come back
