Arduino 2.x IDE takes forever to open

funny they do not have a catagory for problems with IDE2.x... it must be perfect

arduino 2.x IDE takes forever to open

like literally an hour, but somehow if i disconnect from the internet it pops right up?
is ardunio steeling my personal data?

They do. I moved your thread there.

It would help if you provided some details. What type of operating system and what type of computer. What else is running. It's really impossible to help people when all they tell you is that they have a problem. Nobody else is facing this issue, so there must be something particular about your situation.

No.

I can verify this issue. My guess / hope it the program hangs looking for updates. If so, can this be modified to not block opening the IDE?

happens on all three of my computers

yes, need a preference setting to not automatically look for updates,
also every time i open up it automaticly looks for updates, i tell it to update, then it gives me some excuse why it couldnt update... very wasteful of my time resources

Who was nasty to you on this thread? I don't see it.

There is such a preference. Just set it to not check for updates.

The exact nature of that excuse might help to diagnose the problem. Would you care to share it with us?

i have no such check box in preferences, can you be more specific which version this works

if you remember from the initial install of v1 a window pops up saying something about windows firewall allowing access, i disabled the wifi and started the v2 and that same window poped up again and i granted access and it seemed to start faster fyi

Can you be more specific about why you called us nasty? Nobody was nasty to you on this thread.

  1. Press the Ctrl+Shift+P keyboard shortcut (Command+Shift+P for macOS users) to open the "Command Palette".
A menu will appear on the editor toolbar:
    image
  2. Select the "Preferences: Open Settings (UI)" command from the menu.
3.* You can scroll down through the list of commands to find it or type the name in the field.
A "Preferences" tab will open in the Arduino IDE main panel

I've not seen anything nasty from this forum and I've been a member for many years. There are always A__H who make trouble but they are few and far between.
