Arduino 2.x running on fileshare - file/folder access issues

At our campus, all the student MSWin10 user profile's (and by end of Summer 2025 MSWin11 user profile's) \users<name>\Documents\ folder reside out on our network, not locally on the desktop.

However, because of this, ever since 2.x's release we have never been able to use it, because something inside the IDE2.x API calls for folder/file management will not access files on our server. Even though 1.x used to do this just fine. And, even though every other app from Autodesk AutoCAD, to MatLab, to Software Define Radio software; they all can access our fileshare for each student.

Question: Anyone, especially Arduino support staff, know why this is happening? Because, we really need to get upgraded to IDE 2.x but we've been at an impasse for a couple of years.

We have to use fileshare functionality, so that our engineering and physics students have access to all of their files across our myriad of lab rooms and machine shop, observatory, and remote buildings.

HELP! If you can!

Thanks,

My sketches all reside on the Msft cloud so it is a similar setup. Do you have a log of what happens? Here is my path as an example

My gut feel is it is something else that is blocking you

Hi @pelabs.

Please provide a detailed description of exactly what you mean by "will not access", including:

  • What did you do?
  • What were the results you expected from doing that thing?
  • What were the results you observed that did not match your expectations?

Make sure to include the full and exact text of any error or warning messages you might have encountered.
