Arduino 328 - use multiple ports to draw current and feed into 1 sensors

I am using the Arduino 328 and want to play around with a sensors which can not be fed from a single Arduino port. As I want to be able to switch the sensor on/off via the Arduino I was thinking to feed the sensor from 2 Arduino sources (2 port supplying some current). Each of the port could then deliver 20 mA ..

Not sure if this is going to work and ... hope that some of you have experience on that.

Joining outputs is generally not a good idea.

Tell us what sensors. There might be other ways.

I also checked the specs after this thread and joining ports is possible. However it makes this complex as I need to take all kind of limitations into account. So I probably go for a mosfet or transistor switch and let the Arduino only control that ...
