Arduino and ATmega DIP40

Hi there!

Dumb question, I think :-)

Is there a way to write program, using Arduino IDE, for DIP40 ATmega32 (NOT DIP28 ATMega328)? There are different pin names, but microcontroller is (almost) the same. Trying edit pinout definitions at hardware\arduino\avr\variants\standard\pins_arduino.h, but failed.

Any help?

Regards!

Alot of work had done for Atmega32 www.instructables.com/id/Arduino-on-all-sorts-of-Atmels/?ALLSTEPS https://github.com/eaconner/ATmega32-Arduino http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=149677.0

For 40 pin dip AVR most of the activity around here is for the ATmega1284P chip with lots of the needed IDE support modifications required already accomplished.
