Arduino and Max/Msp

Hello,

I am a newbee, and I just need a little advice on what type of Arduino board to go for as it looks like I will definitely need one to do my masters. I've seen one in action in my uni where a guy was controlling parameters in Adobe Flash with a potentiometer, and using sensors, etc. Then I thought, I want one of these!

Basically, after talking to my tutor, it looks as tho I am going to be using Max 6 (got demo, just about to start learning) and Matlab (no idea how to use yet) to do an audio based project, and I was hoping for a little help as in what Arduino board to buy, where to buy and what add ons to get so I can get started. As you guessed, I am totally new to all this but when I did see this board in action I noticed the code looked pretty straight forward after learning ActionScript 3.0 for the past 8 months or so. In addition, I have been told the Mega is a good one, but this was a few months ago now.

Also, I do own a Monome (www.monome.org) so will be excited if I can get that to do something in the mix in the near future

If I've posted in the wrong catagory I appoligise in advance!

Many thanks

to do an audio based project

Audio is not the Arduino's strong suit. What kind of audio project do you have in mind?

Thanks for the reply

Tbh, I would start off right at the bottom by doing some of the suggested examples, get familier with the components, etc. Then I would eventually incorporate max 6. Basically, I am looking at using some sort of sensor or sensors in a persons clothing so when they are triggered, they send MIDI messages back to the computer to trigger sounds. That's the most simpler idea out of the projects I've been given to choose.

Ah, so the Arduino is not actually doing any audio processing. The Arduino CAN do what you suggest here.

The Mega has more inputs and serial ports and memory than the other Arduinos. If it's within your budget, get a Mega.

Great

Yes, a mega is in my budget.

Thanks!
