Arduino and other Devices

Hi everybody, im new on arduino projects.

I have a question, it is possible to communicate Arduino and an external device?, for example have a commercial GPS device and send the data to the Arduino.

Yes. Look into a library like TinyGPS to read the data and break it up for you.
GPS data is typically slow, like a 4800 data rate setting, so software serial can be used to accept it.

Thanks. Then it would be possible to have a device like this: http://www.mindme.care/ and the Arduino takes the device information?

Yes but you will need extra equipment to get the data in. It looks like you will need a compatible radio receiver.

However it looks like this is pre setup to use any mobile phone network. Do you want to disable that?
It sounds expensive reporting in every 3mins and with only 48 hour battery life I would say it was a bit useless.

Thanks for the repply and Feedback. That device "MindMe" it´s a example, different devices will be analyzed. The idea is to know the location of a patient but with somenthing "small" and without external power.

Why did you not say this in the first place?

Without power means that you can only have a short range like half a meter top unless you use a UHF RFID tag and the reader for that is very expensive and the range is still not very good.

could be that with a GPS device to send and receive the position with the Arduino? i know that working indoors is more diificil with GPS.

Not sure what that means. You can't do that without power at both ends and I thought you didn't want to use power.
