arduino atmega8 and stepper motor

hi all,

has anyone succeeded in running a 'unipolar stepper motor' with arduino atmega8 mcu?

on achieving the above i'd need to run the stepper motor to a set number of steps, after which, it will have to turn back that many steps.

any help on this in terms of code, schematics, references, links or just about anything...will be much appreciated. thank you.

thanks mike : )

the motor fundamentals did help me...but it was my mistake that i forgot to mention i will not be using a potentiometer, instead atmega8 will do the controlling after programming. would you know if some one has done this?

here's the parts list, that i have...

  • TEAC 4Z28, P.No. 14769070-30, made in china, 12V stepper motor
  • L12 Arduino Board with ATMEL 0850G ATmega8 16 pu IC
  • TOSHIBA ULN2803AG motor driver
