Hello everybody,
I use an Arduino uno with an Arduino GSM shield to open an electrical barrier with a phone call. I have already finnished my programm and it already worked in the workshop.
But if I place the System inside the case of the barrier, it does not work because the shield never or very rarely answeres the calls.
Maybe it depends on the network connection but I don't know what I should do to fix this.
I hope you can help me 
If the case is metal the radio signal cannot penetrate. Look up "Faraday cage"

Yes the case is made out of metal but it also consists of some plastic parts. I thought that should be enough to let the signal pass through the case.
Do you know any opportunity to detacht the antenna from the shield and to attach it ouside the housing?

Recognize if the holes in the case which are plastic are smaller than a fraction of the wavelength of the signal, it appears solid metal. Chicken wire is effectively solid to low frequency signals. The ability of a signal to penetrate a mesh is dependent on the wavelength of the signal and the size of the mesh.
