I thought I would share my idea for a cheaper arduino with capabilities to communicate via bluetooth and build it without soldering. It's a bit of a jigsaw setup sourcing equipment, it can be easier if you aren't picky.
I made a post of it which can be found here http://www.ph0t0n.com.au/arduino-bluetooth-on-the-cheap-and-easy/ But I will summerise.
you need
1 x arduino usb board.
1 x xbee shield.
and
1x Bluetooth Bee which I bought from http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/bluetooth-bee-p-598.html?cPath=2
Total cost is about $90AUD and I know $90AUD can still seem expensive, but this is all relatively plug and play.
I hope someone will find this useful.
//Kind Regards.
