Arduino board not showing up

The arduino isn't appearing in the port and the following error comes up when I tried to upload:

avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device "\.\COM1": The system cannot find the file specified.

You might need to install the driver for your board. If you don't know which one you need then post a link to where you bought your board from or tell us which USB-serial chip is on the board.

Often near the USB jack. Sometimes on the bottom of the board. Could be built into the cable. Impossible to give better help unless you provide more information.
