Arduino board to control Solenoid

Hi.. i'm new bee building doing DIY to build kit to control the water drops to photography.

after reading few articles i'm bit lost about which Arduino board to buy... i have couple of question, please can you help here please?

  1. which board should i buy for this purpose. (nano, uno, ??)

  2. for components like, timer, should they be purchased separately or they are part of kit please?

  3. in future i'll extend this to control multiple Solenoid valves- so can they be controlled using same board ?

UNO should be fine...

You need to learn about controlling power with Arduino...

Some help HERE

You need to know:

  • Solenoid Voltage
  • Solenoid Current
  • How fast you need to turn them on-off

And more...

thanks. i found your article interesting.

i got a uno kit and 12v solenoid valve and a 12v AC to DC convert - i hope i can directly connect this 12v converter to the board and it won't burn the board :slight_smile:

No need to hope. Know how many amps your solenoids and other components need. Get an 'AC to DC convert' with enough amps. Give solenoids power directly from the 'convert'.

I’m doing the same thing. What you need is a MOSFET chip. About $0.75. But buy the board with the circuitry for $1.25. Remember to add a diode in reverse polarity to handle the collapsing WMF field when the power is removed. Depending on the solenoid you could be getting 100 volts or more.

Make sure it is a logic level MOSFET, some of the modules supplied profess to have MOSFETs that work with 5V gate drive, they don't.
