Arduino Circuit Diagram

Hello all,

Does anyone know where i can get the circuitry of the arduino uno, and also the efficiency of the regulator that is in use. I need to write a technical review on the arduino uno dev board. All im really concerned with is the losses at this stage and what can be done to prevent them.

Thanks.

Yes, on this site. They have schematics and parts list for all of the Arduino variants.

And for the regulator efficiency, that's simple...

It uses linear regulators. Need I say more?

Got that right. Efficiency = 100 x 5V/Vin with a linear regulator.

polymorph:
Got that right. Efficiency = 100 x 5V/Vin with a linear regulator.

If you ignore the current draw of the regulator itself.

Well, sure, but that is usually inconsequential compared to the Atmel, other chips, and other circuitry.

pahsaw! It is simple to achieve near 100% efficiency with most monolithic IC regulators by the simple application of the 'Linear Parasitic Shunt' approach: 1) lift the Common (or Adjust on adjustable regulators) pin and leave that terminal floating, 2) apply the Linear Parasitic Shunt ( a short length of 1 gauge solid copper conductor) between the Vin and Vout terminals of the regulator in question, 3) remove the output ripple filter capacitor. It should be noted that some control of regulation and thermal limit shut-off capabilities will be lost, but this is a small price to pay for the greatly increased efficiency obtained. Patent pending.......

How about you GET an UNO and a simple multimeter and start making real measurements.

Paper In, Paper Out sounds like a homework assignment.

@123Splat - I thought Tim Allen already had a patent on that.
