Arduino CLI not working

Hi -

I’ve been looking at this page because I could also benefit from a command line interface. That way I can use my IDE of choice.

However, no matter which command I try, the Arduino IDE will never do anything. It will start the software with a blank sketch. I have v1.6.3.

Do you know what I am doing wrong?

Consider this command:
arduino.exe c:/[path/blink.ino

It never opens the Sketch like the manual says.

Thanks a lot,

Eric

Hello,

Works for me on Windows 8:

arduino C:/Users/xxx/Documents/Arduino/sketch/sketch.ino

Maybe you have spaces in the path? Add double quotes then

arduino "C:/Users/xx xx/Documents/Arduino/sketch/sketch.ino"

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Arduino\arduino.exe" "D:\desktop\spoon\spoon.ino"

loads up the file spoon.ino just fine for me. as does:

arduino.exe D:\desktop\spoon\spoon.ino
(from C:\Program Files (x86)\Arduino>)

are you using the full path for the ino file? it doesn't work unless you use the full path for the INO file.

Hi thanks,

The problem I was having was that I ran the command from another directory (the sketch folder).
When I change the directory to c:\Program Files (x86)\Arduino it all works fine!

Thanks for the reply.

Small tip:

If you want to get the same console output as the Arduino IDE, using --verbose is not enough. Calling arduino_debug.exe with the same CLI commands does however give the same output.
