Hi guys I'm trying to build a home " control system " , with sensors as if a door or window opens,a fire sensor,a water sensor, etc.
( I do not know whether all this is possible,or not! ) and I want to ask you the following !
first which connectors to buy, to detect movement in space , whether a window opened, for water and for fire ?
and also , how do we connect the arduino; can i do it wirelessly? or only through the prototype board and the respective panels ? what I want is to have the arduino in my room (where a silent alarm will sound if something wrong happens) and there to receive sensor data!
Also , if I want to do it via internet ( for installation of the same system to my country home ) i have to hook it up with the ethernet shield and the router , right ?
sorry for my english!they re poor!
Submit your proposed budget and the following criteria:
1 physical size of uC case
2. list of proposed sensors
3. proposed budget
4 wireless required range
where a silent alarm will sound
?
if I want to do it via internet ( for installation of the same system to my country home ) i have to hook it up with the ethernet shield and the router , right ?
Either that or some other web connection , like GSM.
how do we connect the arduino; can i do it wirelessly? or only through the prototype board and the respective panels ?
It is obvious the hardware to be sensed must be connected to arduino unless you use xbees but the web or wireless connection can be from another location to arduino, depending on what hardware choice you make.
ok!!first of all!i would love my cost to stay low!secondly, lets say that i want to monitor a door on the 3rd floor, one on the first and one on the basement!how could i do it?should i connect 3 (or more) arduino uno?or should i place a cable from the arduino (in my room) to the door on my floor, then to the 3rd floor and then to the basement??
by silent alarm(sorry my english is really really poor) i mean an alarm that sounds on my room only,or even a blinking led.
Sorry , but "low" is relative. Pick a number.
ok!!i now have the arduino board,i just purchased the ethernet shield,i have loads of jumpers etc!so for the sensors (doors, windows, flames and water) i would like to spend 50-60 euros, unless i could build also a "panic button" (someone could hit it if spots anything unusual, and the alarm to my room would sound again) so for that i could give 100 or even some more!
i would like to spend 50-60 euros
Ok, about $70-$80 US.
project has multiple phases.
#1) sensors. easy to wire in a sensor in every device, every window, every point of entry. lots of wires.
alternative is to use wireless, but the cost per device goes up and maintenance for batteries is an issue.
#2) internet connection. assume you have an internet connection at all times. do you want to know if any part fails ? or do you want to know the exact point ? such as the upstairs window in the back room
for a wired system, you can save lots of wire by going from window to window. only one notice of failure, unable to know which. or to have a wire from each point of entry back to the panel. lots more wires, but lots more information.
if an internet connection is not available, can a phone line work ? you can lift the phone handset, dial, then pay a voice message.
suggested input points :
entry, such as doors and windows, or to use motion sensors inside.
device operation. water sensor on the floor for a flood.
whole house power use. a CT is a cheap device, easily connected to see if ANY power is being used. such as a heater or lights or some such. would show some one using power.
temperature. to prevent freezing.
since the software is the hardest part, get the arduino to connect to the internet and use a motion sensor to test.
once you have one device that works, it is easy to add a couple dozen more inputs.
thats great!!i would prefer a wireless option,if that would be possible!!what type of sensors should i buy??and what would the cost be??i have an all time internet connection which covers all my house via wifi!(from the basement to the 3rd floor).for this house i d prefer to know which part failed.for my country house,i just want to know if any failed..
also,i could love to make something like a "panic button" which someone could press in case of an emergency!if this is possible,of course!
and please tell me which shields i need for the whole project!!
i really dont know which sensors should i buy to complete this!so any help is overwelcomed!!!
a friend told me that i could connect some xbees to do that..could i?will it work correctly with arduino??

The first thing that seems to jump out is that the math doesn't seem to add up. Your budget sounds to low to meet your design criteria.
Why?
Each door or window is a separate location. Unless you are prepared to run security alarm type plastic sheathed multi-conductor
wiring from every single door or window sensor to 'base' control station where they connect to the arduino (which has an xbee shield), I don't see this as being doable with the allotted budget.
Let's look at the facts.
Equipment required
- multiple (number UNKNOWN (still) at this time. One would assume your home has a finite number of doors and windows and that you are capable of walking around and counting them so why this information has not been given is a mystery.(PRICE ?)

hello there!and sorry for the missing informations..completely my mistake!
i didnt want to speak about money, because i can be flexible there!i mean i just said that 50-60 euros would be great (for this moment!)if is more,i dont have a real problem!
also,i have the arduino and the ethernet shield!and some other things, like a pir motion sensor!
and at last,at this phase i want sensors for 4 doors and 1 window..although if the system works,i m planning to add more sensors for the rest of my windows and doors..
also,i decided not to use a water sensor, but instead i d prefer to use this,
Rakuten UK: Shop cashback deals on the best offers & savings to measure gas leak.
because you seem knowing things, and i really have no idea, would this be the arduino shield i need??Rakuten UK: Shop cashback deals on the best offers & savings
You still need the zigbee modules to plug into that shield
at this phase i want sensors for 4 doors and 1 window..although if the system works,i m planning to add more sensors for the rest of my windows and doors..
As pointed out , each sensor is a separate input. Either you run all the wires from each sensor to the arduino or you have an arduino /zigbee at each sensor location. Can you think of another alternative ? ADT has wireless sensors. Maybe you can use something like that. I have not researched that but it seems like the most realistic approach.
i was thinking of buying four or more of this one XBee adapter - Simple wireless communication ,which costs around 10 euros and the arduino shield!
i really dont know about the adt sensors you told me about...sorry for asking again and again!but is there a link so i could find more about them??i mean,if its a better solution,i really want to follow yours!
The ADT sensors operate at some high frequency like 2.4 Ghz or 5.8 Ghz but are read by the ADT processor similar to what you are doing. I still don't know how you can avoid having to use an arduino UNO (or Pro-Mini) for each sensor /transmitter station.
i m trying to find those adt sensors and find out how to connect them with the arduino...
That's not going to work. ADT is the name of an American Security Alarm company that has their equipment made to order. No alarm company in their right mind would release documentation to the public revealing how to disable their alarms. Forget I mentioned ADT unless you are in US and want to sign up for their service.
I m not!so no adt sensors.ok,i ll try to find more about the xbees..really thanks for your time my friend!i need all the help i can find right now!!
just to be sure..
i need one of this

and four-five of those??
or those?
or

(again,are they the same??)
and something more..those modules still need sensors.right?like a pir sensor to sense movement.right??and how do i connect the sensors with xbee modules??
