Take a look here for different options.

Are you thinking of a hard drive with a parallel IDE interface? It's possible, although not simple, to do that. Have a search for one of the various project that connect an IDE disk to an 8-bit computer via a parallel port.
Please don’t cross-post and if you insist on doing so, please have the courtesy to link the two threads to each other.
Thanks.

Looks more like an accidental double-post as both topics are identical, in the same forum and occurred at the same time.
I must admit I didn't notice both posts were in the same forum but the content is slightly different.
aldwyn: It is possible to modify a post after you've made it, so next time that would be a better way of handling things.
For completeness, this is the other thread: http://www.arduino.cc/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1237657192
Hope you will let us know aldwyn how your research into this goes. My apologies if my reply came across harshly. :-)
