Arduino Create Agent on Windows 11

Hi. Arduino Create Agent stopped working om my Win 11 PC.
When I start the Arduino Web Editor, I get the message I should install the Create Agent. It is installed, but the icon is grey, not green. I'm supposed to click the icon end select "reactivate". This is all fine, I managed to do this yesterday. But when i click the icon today, the app window disappear.
How can I solve this? If not solved, the editor do not detect any ports. I cannot send code to my Arduino. :slightly_frowning_face:

Hi @stefanahlgren.

I'm not sure I understood correctly what you mean by "the app window disappear". Please add a forum reply here that provides a more detailed description to help us to understand it.

There is no app window for Arduino Create Agent. It runs in the background on your computer. The only direct manifestation of it running is the Arduino logo icon in the Windows "notification area".

Hello. Sorry about the poor information.
I click the Start button to find my installed apps. Then I click the All button to find all my installed apps. Under A, Arduino Create Agent appears with the icon grey.
When I click the grey icon, the apps list just disappears and nothing else happens.
When I right-click on the grey icon, a sub menu appears, with the selections "Add to start, More and Uninstall. The More option contains Add to the activity field, Run as admin and Open search path (all here is translated from my Swedish issue, it might be something slightly different i the English versions).

What I would like to do is click the grey icon and select "reactivate" or similar. I was able to do this two days ago, but not again after that.

Thanks for the clarification. This is normal and expected. When you see the information about the gray icon indicating Arduino Create Agent is in the "paused" state, that is referring to the icon in the Windows "notification area":

It is expected that there won't be any apparent result of clicking on it. The only sign that Arduino Create Agent is running is the icon in the notification area. Please check to see if that icon is present there. If it is there and has the white background like in the screenshot above, then Arduino Create Agent is running and in the active mode.

Thank you! I have indeed found the Agent icon in the notification area as you showed me above. It looks the same on my computer as in your screen shot. I right-click it, and it seems it is running as it should.
However, i still cannot seclect a port in the Arduino web editor, or the Arduino IDE 2.3.2. The port selection is not available at all. Maybe this error has nothing to do with the Agent at all? //Stefan

BTW, the USB port I use works fine considering providing electricity to the board. The board works fine with the scetch, previously loaded, back in the days when everything worked smoothly... /Stefan

Yeah. The fact that the problem also occurs when using Arduino IDE also makes me think the problem is at a lower level than Arduino Create Agent.

Please try this troubleshooting procedure and then report your results in a reply on this forum thread:

:exclamation: This procedure is not intended to solve the problem. The purpose is to gather more information.

  1. Open the Windows Device Manager.
  2. Select View > Devices by type from the Device Manager menus.
  3. Open the "View" menu.
  4. If there is a to the left of the "Show hidden devices" menu item, click on "Show hidden devices" to disable it.
  5. Disconnect the USB cable of the Arduino board from your computer.
  6. Take note of the contents of the "Other devices" and "Ports (COM & LPT)" sections of the Device Manager tree.
  7. Connect the Arduino board to your computer with a USB cable.
  8. Select Action > Scan for hardware changes" from the Device Manager menus.

Did you see any new device appear in the Device Manager tree after doing this? If so, please tell us where it is located in the tree and what it is named.

You can repeat steps 5-8 multiple times if you are not sure.

Please also tell us which Arduino board you are using.

Please be as specific as possible as some Arduino boards with similar names have significant differences and the forum helpers can only provide effective assistance if we are aware of which one is being used.

If you aren't sure how to describe which board you are using, you can provide the link to the online product listing you bought the board from and we'll proceed based on the information found there.

Dear ptillisch. I am sorry for taking up Your precious time. I have found the problem.
I have used a malfunctioning USB-C cable! It works fine electrically, but as a data cable it is dead. I tried a new USB cable, now all is hunky dory!
Thanks for the support, and have a Happy Easter! //Stefan, Sweden

You are welcome. Great job on finding the cause of the problem! Thanks for taking the time to post an update with your solution.
