If its the mini CLONE and the serial adaptor is installed correctly as you say.
Select the board from the board selection in the IDE and the port as the port that your serial adaptor is listed on.
Clones and proper ones here and thats all I ever have to do.
Dont forget RX goes to TX and vice versa.
