arduino ethernet shield

hello,
I am trying to get familiar with arduino ethernet shield. So i started with a simple work of loading webpages, i followed this tutorial http://www.instructables.com/id/Arduino-Ethernet-Shield-Tutorial/ i got the ip address that i put in the webserver programme along with the mac id given with the ethernet shield.On a different system i tried to open the webpage stored on the sd card on the shield by http://172.16.110.170/index.htm, where index.htm is :

<!DOCTYPE html>

<html>

    <head>

        <title>Arduino SD Card Web Page</title>

    </head>

    <body>

        <h1>Hello from the Arduino SD Card!</h1>

        <p>A web page from the Arduino SD card server.</p>

    </body>

</html>

. but am getting the error as “webpage http://172.16.110.170/ is online but not responding” please provide some suggestions.

sorry if the post is too lengthy… :expressionless:
the webserver programme i used is wat was available in the arduino ethernet library …anyway still i hav attached…

Hi, This may help: http://arduino-info.wikispaces.com/ethernet

@zoomkat, thankyou sir, i tried the sketch u gave me , and got the output on serial monitor as :
starting sd…ok
ready
next i tried loading the webpage from sd card but failed…got the error as" google chrome couldnot connect to 172.16.110.170.
should i send any command or anything from serial monitor?

also, the w5100 module is getting hot after few minutes. I am powering it through USB cable, my ethernet shield has no POE module... can you suggest what may be the problem?? thankyou

This may cause you some challenges if you didn't change it.

EthernetServer server(84); //server port

Maybe you should change that to the standard http port 80.

EthernetServer server(80); //server port

Or perhaps a URL with port 84 appended like in the example code comments. note that if that IP address is not a LAN IP and a the arduino is connected to a router, then other configurations may be required.
