I am a pretty new arduino user and am trying to get a proximity sensor on my arduino to talk to flash to advance a slide when something triggers the sensor.
Any help however brief or extensive would be helpful.

Flash is sort of the antithesis of Arduino. That is, it is neither free nor easy. As a result, the use of Flash is not widespread in the Arduino community. It may take a while to get an answer.
