Arduino for Controlling GE RR7 Latching Relay


I'm trying to figure out the most efficient way to control a series of GE RR7 relays with my arduino boards.

Here's how an RR7 relay works in a typical circuit. Do a google search for LWS-PDT-RR7.pdf and see the second page.

The relay itself latches to either on or off. To switch the relay you pulse 24VAC to a common and either red (latch on), or black (latch off).

I was thinking since it is 'only' 24VAC and is pulsed for a short amount of time, that I could use a MOC3042 with no other external circuitry (like a triac or scr).

Does someone have any words of wisdom they'd like to share?
