arduino for high torque servos

I was woondering if it is possible to use arduino boards for controlling the motion of high toque servo motors. The current rating of my motor is 2 A. Do I need to use any special motor shields or is it not possible at all?

You need a separate power supply for the servos but the Arduino is able to produce the PWM signal needed to control the servo. This is different to controlling standard DC or stepper motors where you need driver shields or breakout boards.

Do you mean R/C type servos or DC servo motors? If DC motors, you need a motor
shield. If R/C servos, you can use the Arduino for the signal input to the servo,
and just need a separate power supply large enough to handle the servo current.

Hi,

Check the two links in my signature for Details on Arduino with various servos
