Arduino green light comes on but not the LED strips

I'm working on getting my ambient background light environment working.

I've installed Prismatik, FastLED documents and the Arduino software. I upload the code:

After uploading, I then turn on Prismatik and go through their Wizard. I select COM5 (the one the Arduino is connected to) but the lights don't come on!

I have the ground pin in the ground connector, same as the +5V and the DIM connector into one of the ports (0 through 13).

Any ideas?

Here is the setup

Couple quick pointers.
Read the sticky posts at the top of each forum.
Select the correct forum for your issue.

You should seperate the power.
Most addressable LED's need thier own supply as they can draw more power than the board would be able to supply. But remember to keep a common GROUND.

Seems this issue comes up quite a bit in various sections of the internet so maybe google "Prismatik, FastLED" to get more reliable info.

So I would connect the +5V cable from the lights into the 5V power supply negative term? Then the power supply's positive term into a ground on the Arduino?

NOOooooo !

Supply the LED's with thier very own power supply and SHARE the COMMON / NEGATIVE with the Arduino's NEGATIVE...

I still get no results Bob.

I tried using the red (+) wire into the 5V pin like this:

and grounded the battery and wire cables into the board.

From Prismatik I go from "No lightpack connected" -> "Adalight" -> "COM5/115200/RGB" -> "Monitor" -> "Lightpack" -> "Pegasus 14"-> "Finish"
Nothing.

I pressed the reset button and tried various variations on the prismatik software. Also uploading using Arduino sometimes failed but I just unplug the usb and plug it back it to get it going!

and what was it?

No I mean, the link.

I tried the other end of the LED strip and it turned on, but the software did not change the light effects.
But then it broke 10 minutes later when I pulled the ground off the board.
I'm going to attempt to cut off another piece and solder it onto the board cables

Lights turned on finally.
Unfortunately it doesn't sync with music/games when using Lightpack or Ambibox, says "Lightpack not detected"

I figured it out, the rate from the port of the device manager was different than the setup so the thing didn't work.
