I'm going to do something similar.I suppose you're using a RFID reader (not writer), and EM4100 tag (read only); it's right?

yes! right!
I used a ID-12 RFID reader (sparkfun) and just generic 125khz RFID cards. (they are cheap at the maker shed)
Mowcius - exactly! Im not much of a coder and rather coded out by the whole thing..if you want to pick the the code and run with it let me know. I think SD logging would be great, but we will also need some time logic to keep time.
natman3400 - good idea in theroy - but what if that card is lost or stolen? for me erasing all the cards is not a big deal as I only have 10-15 cards total. Right now only 4 of them are in use.
